What is the purpose of this Research Registry?
A research registry is a collection of individuals interested in being informed of research studies of which they might like to participate. Part of UPMC’s mission is to provide outstanding patient care by learning from research studies. We are inviting you to participate in this research registry because you are a patient at the UPMC Vision Institute.
How does this registry work?
If you join the registry, you will be giving your permission:
(1) To allow UPMC Vision Institute to use all of your past, current, and future medical record information to see if you may be eligible for any research studies, and
(2) To allow members of the UPMC Vision Institute physician and research staff to contact you to ask if you are interested in learning about research studies for which you seem to qualify. The UPMC Vision Institute may also send you mailings that will provide you with educational information about research studies that are available. Some of these studies are clinical trials, which are research studies looking at new ways to diagnose, prevent, or treat medical diseases or disorders. Some of these research studies may be related to a disease or condition that you have, while some studies will need healthy individuals to participate. You do not have to participate in any research study that you hear about as a result of your participation in this registry.
(3) To allow us to perform retrospective research studies on eye disease. Such research involves analyses of the medical record information of patients seen by the UPMC Vision Institute and/or UPMC Visual Diagnostics, Imaging, and Lasers.
